Back in the 2010s, I observed two types of CTOs Type #1: used tools like Velocity, Puralsight Flow or others extensively, and judged their devs (and progress) based on these artificial metrics Type #2: was in the details, knew exactly what happened and where Type #2 always won

As in the teams that Type #2 led was more productive, got stuff done, and there was no beating around the bush Type #1 either worked at (or made the culture become like) a more traditional company. Where managers are nontechnical, and devs roll eyes when their manager suggests something

Some will say "but AI is different!" But the result will the same Devs, engineering leaders and anyone who stays in the details (undertands exactly what their team does) will *always* out-execute folks who "outsource" the "understand the important parts" to a machine

To spell out the obvious: managers who buy into this latest hype train (“use AI to get dig als based on which you manage your team”) could chase away productive devs who don’t write many tickets (because they just ‘get it’ and get the work done or talk w others) and promote the opposite
