The reaction to this lawsuit has been really telling. Many self-proclaimed free speech warriors are proving—again—that their defense of the First Amendment only applies to certain people and certain speech. That is the exact opposite of why it exists. A shame.

Can’t emphasize enough that the federal government jailed and is trying to deport someone who co-authored a benign student op-ed officials disagreed with. That’s the only “evidence” they’ve submitted in her case. And many First Amendment lovers are defending *that.* Disgraceful.

Also, a lot of people who smeared FIRE as "right-wing"—despite that the organization has consistently defended *all* speech, regardless of political bent—owe the organization an apology. Some people really struggle with the concept of having principles.
