We should increase the number of representatives in the House by 15% to 500 members beginning after the 2030 census. This addresses many problems we face all at once. It would shrink congressional districts, reduce the impact of wild partisan gerrymandering, make it less expensive to run for office and cut into an incumbent’s legacy advantage, diminish the likelihood that one or a few unserious representatives can hold up the entire body, and reduce the disproportionate power held by less populous states in the Electoral College. The size of the House (435) hasn’t changed in over 100 years and all it takes is a vote of Congress. Seems like a no-brainer to me.
