cool thing about hardcore research conferences like SBC is they are kind of the same each year. half the researchers optimizing database bottlenecks for 2-10x gains, other half reinventing what consensus even means. hard questions like that require a lot of work and inspiration to materialize into something visible to wider audience. but when/if they do we only need a few to change the world for the next decade to followup on.
