when I was ~18 I told my dad I was going to join a monastery and he was like wtf no and completely talked me out of it ultimately awakening, etc, came later. unequivocally worth the time spent, and the other costs (e.g. temporary drops in certain kinds of motivation) but he was right, and i'm glad I didn't do it then. you don't have to abandon the world to unlearn unhappiness. you don't have to exit society in order to wake up. you can just Practice. the world has a lot to teach you
