India and The World 🗞️ Preface: Today is India’s 79th Independence Day. It was a slow morning. I woke up in time to move my body, do a run, pull some weights, and in the background hear Prime Minister Modi’s speech from the Red Fort on the television. This day always has a very special indescribable feeling, also takes you back to childhood, and all that you would have done to mark the many Independence Days right through. Nostalgia. Took Buzo for a quick walk in the park, my boy was so happy when racing with the wind out of the car window, and then forced down the medicines down his throat. Packed, combed, and then set off to the airport. Had the chance to let the car speakers blare out former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru’s Tryst with Destiny speech. It’s as powerful as when I first heard it. Opened the newspaper a tad bit later than usual today, good to see S&P upgrading our rating and placing that additional emphasis on more than half of our GDP growth coming from domestic consumption, always a delight to see that beautiful number moving up. Now sitting in the lounge, waiting for the plane to start boarding, to get to some part Southeast Asia later in the evening. Thinking, or overthinking as usual, about the one thing I let my mind race to fairly often. About India and its place in the world. So today, I am going to pick up something I’ve long wanted to do. To finally start writing down my thoughts on India, and the world. On how the world sees India, right or wrong, without bias, and how India sees the world. My work takes me to around the world, I am about to apply for the 5th passport soon, quite crazy considering I started to travel like this only in the last few years. My work ‘also’ takes me to the deepest corners of our country, my train and bus tickets, and my car miles, overtaking the average rider by some distance. That, gives me a unique perspective, and one that continues evolving. I am setting this up as a quote-post 🧵 While it’s hundred percent likely to be irregular, I am going to try and post atleast once every 7-10 days, sometimes more frequent and sometimes not. Will derive my thinking around what’s happening out there, live facts, what’s happened in the past week, interspersed with conversations I might’ve had with someone somewhere in the world that week.
