I didn’t grow up with a silver spoon or in a privileged environment. I’m first-generation from the Dominican Republic, raised in the US. Growing up, I didn’t have the luxury of having a generation of family members here who paved the way to fall back on. I’m one of the first in my family to graduate from college. My parents couldn’t afford to send me to college, so I had to fund it myself. That’s been a recurring theme in my life. Having to do things on my own, finding a way.
