when I was ~18 I told my dad I was going to join a monastery and he was like wtf no and completely talked me out of it ultimately awakening, etc, came later. unequivocally worth the time spent + the other costs (e.g. temporary drops in certain kinds of motivation) but he was right, and i'm glad I didn't do it then. you don't have to abandon the world to unlearn unhappiness. you don't have to exit society in order to wake up. you can just Practice. the world has a lot to teach you
