This week on the @STRATO_MERCATA Spaces, we’re celebrating 10 years since the @ethereum mainnet launch with a special guest. Joining us is my good friend and Ethereum OG, @TaylorGerring.
@iamtexture CC @TaylorGerring I had a crazy project thought a few days ago, which would be for me to contact EVERYONE on this list from Nov 2013 to December 2014 and do some biography, photos, mini interview with all of these early contributors.
@iamtexture @TaylorGerring "Ethereum - The Forgotten Contributors" You'd have all the well known people too, of course, but I bet there are a bunch of people here who are completely unknown to the public and have never even been asked to share their memories and "artifacts".
@iamtexture @TaylorGerring Maybe this is actually all the same project? A companion piece of sorts for @laurashin's The Cryptopians, which I think is the best capturing of those early days, in all their messy glory.
@iamtexture @TaylorGerring @laurashin There are 80 people in my list there who would fit that criteria. If either of you know of further people who were involved in some way and who I should also add to my list here, I am all ears.
@iamtexture @TaylorGerring @laurashin My criteria for inclusion see below (but I stopped adding new EF people at the end of the Ming Era, January 2018). I gathered all this information in the first place to try to understand how on earth she had been hired in the first place and what happened prior.
@iamtexture @TaylorGerring @laurashin Shortly after that, with Laura, and also @CamiRusso and Matthew Leising working on their respective Ethereum books, I did not continue to update my pages. But we've not had any illustrated photo book or similar yet. Just @EthereumFilm and other videos/movies.
@iamtexture @TaylorGerring @laurashin @CamiRusso @EthereumFilm Also, not too much focus on the minor contributors anywhere.
@gdanskij @thelastminute @VitalikButerin @mingchan88 @kjameslubin @greg_colvin @EthereumDenver @vic4wong @JamshidHormuz @blockapps @yorkerhodes Something which was set as a goal in those meetings for a launch demo was integration of Tendermint into Quorum. @cosmos guys got busy and it never happened. Later AMIS created IBFT and did the Quorum integration and that became a standard.
@gdanskij @thelastminute @VitalikButerin @mingchan88 @kjameslubin @greg_colvin @EthereumDenver @vic4wong @JamshidHormuz @blockapps @yorkerhodes @cosmos If Tendermint integration had happened that early we could probably have had a heterogenous Quorum + Monax enterprise ethereum testnet out of the gate (or soon after). That would have been a true test of standards compliance and made the EEA Spec work really meaningful.
@gdanskij @thelastminute @VitalikButerin @mingchan88 @kjameslubin @greg_colvin @EthereumDenver @vic4wong @JamshidHormuz @blockapps @yorkerhodes @cosmos Instead, as far as I can see, we never got to any real cross-client interop where vendor lock-in was meaningfully minimized. Not even Quorum + Besu ever interopped as far as I know, eh, @chaals?
