gym buddy of mine has been getting into crypto lately, asked me yesterday "have you ever heard of polymarket? found this app yesterday and have started betting on some stuff" told him that ive been following it closely and explained how these apps have emerged into a use case that will likely lead to the mass onboarding event that we've been waiting for.. then he stopped me and asked "but dont you think that this is largely bad for society, i mean what if theres a platform that challenges people to do fucked up things for views and bounties... full on black mirror man" then we talked through the implications of some of these new platforms that have emerged, the livestream stuff, creator tokens, betting/gambling trends... all of this stuff blew his mind. where we go from here, and how deep it goes, who knows, but this past year has brought out the worst in some folks, and im afraid that many more will become susceptible to these platforms, feeling the pressures of high costs of living & unemployment, viewing public humiliation rituals & crime-for-dollars as their only way out... just observing.
